1. Are you still at the accident site?

In an emergency, always call 112.
  1. Prevent further accidents. Place a warning triangle on the road if necessary and turn on your vehicle's hazard warning lights.
  2. Inspect the damage and determine what happened.
  3. Note down the other party's license plate number, contact details, name of their insurance company, and the contact details of any witnesses.
  4. Go through the events together to confirm what happened atnd the extent of damage to both vehicles. If the situation is unclear, call the police.
  5. Take photos of the accident site and the positions of the vehicles, if possible.
Always report a collision with an elk or a deer to the police by calling the emergency response centre. Also report a collision with a reindeer to the emergency response centre so that a reindeer assessor is notified of the incident.

2. Do you need towing or other help?

Our partner will provide instructions on how to act in problem situations. If necessary, we will arrange for a replacement vehicle and towing for your vehicle through our towing partners SOS Hinaus and REDGO.

Vehicle emergency service 24/7 by phone when you need help
If you call us, we will send help to the scene and give advice in problem situations. In most cases, we will issue a claim settlement decision during the same phone call. Queuing is also subject to a charge.

3. Report the claim

If you caused the collision, report the claim to Pohjola Insurance. We will contact the claimant and the other party as soon as we have processed the report.
You can report the claim in the op.fi service or in the OP-mobile app.
If you are unable to use the op.fi service, you can report the claim in the Claims Service by logging in with your personal online banking credentials.
If the accident was caused by the driver of another vehicle, report the claim to that vehicle’s insurance company.

4. Take your vehicle to be inspected

Passenger car, van or other similar vehicle:
Take the vehicle to the nearest Pohjola Insurance partner repair shop to be inspected, unless the company covering the damages instructs you otherwise. You can find the partner repair shops using the search below.
Heavy vehicle or a working machine:
Take the vehicle to your selected repair shop and contact Pohjola Insurance before the repairs. The insurance company must be granted the right to inspect the damage before any repair work is started.
Inform the repair shop of the claim code, if you know it, and agree on the repair schedule.

5. Which policies will compensate the loss?

Motor liability insurance covers, in accordance with the Motor Liability Insurance Act, bodily injury sustained by people in the policyholder’s own vehicle, and bodily injury or property damage caused to the innocent party and other parties involved. Every motor vehicle used in traffic must have motor liability insurance.
Accident damage to your own vehicle is covered by the voluntary Super Motor Insurance and Maxi Motor Insurance in accordance with the insurance terms and conditions. Medium Motor Insurance covers accident damage only in the case of a collision with an animal.
Value added tax is first deducted from the repair costs of a vehicle used in business operations (e.g. taxi, van, lorry or bus), and then the deductible entered in the insurance policy. Motor liability insurance and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance have no deductible.
